Frankincense has been used for thousands of years to awaken the spirit and balance the mind. In meditation practices, it allows for deeper breaths that increase mental awareness and restoration of calmness and peace.
Bursera Graveolens, known in Spanish as Palo Santo (“holy wood”) is a wild tree from Latin America. It is used for crafting objects and to produce burning sticks and incense and is part of the citrus family with sweet notes of pine, mint, and lemon. Palo Santo also helps with concentration during meditation.
The sweetly woody, balsamic distillate has been a constituent of incense and perfumes since biblical times. Some claim that this is the myrrh to which the Song of Solomon referred. It has found aromatic applications outside of perfumery, in cases of stress, depression, minor pain, inflammation, skin issues, and in respiratory complaints. The effects are peaceful, calming, and deeply meditative.
