3 Benefits of cutting out coffee

Don’t panic - we know how important that cup (or few cups) of coffee may be in your daily routine. While drinking coffee within the recommended daily intake (approx. up to 400 mg a day), there are some health benefits to cutting it out.

For most of us, coffee provides us with that burst of energy we need as we’re rolling out of bed some mornings and can’t quite find the energy to function, BUT… cutting out coffee may actually be the key to helping you feel more energy and just better overall.

Although it may sound impossible, it is in fact doable! Here are 3 reasons why we think it’s worth cutting it out:

1. Your mood can improve + you’ll feel better!

When drinking caffeine, it locks onto receptors that produce energy. This will send signals to your body, while tricking it into having more energy and using all of the natural energy-giving molecules that are normally reused in the energy production cycle.

Caffeine can also increase your response to stress levels, releasing stress hormone cortisol. When your cortisol hormone increases, your blood sugar levels will spike which then can increase insulin. Overall, when each of these levels increase, your body will feel tired and lazy and almost as if you’re ‘crashing’ after that caffeine rush that helped you get out of bed this morning.

2. You’ll get a well rested sleep!

Caffeine is a stimulant, which means it can interfere with the quality of sleep you’re getting. When you cut coffee out of your daily routine, it will help maintain the natural cortisol and melatonin your body is producing. Better sleep = more energy!

3. Your supplements will be better absorbed!

It’s known that caffeine can interfere with the absorption of essential minerals, including calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc + Copper, and B vitamins. It can also increase the excretion of magnesium, potassium, sodium and phosphate. So to summarize, maybe you are taking these supplements but aren’t exactly noticing the benefits of them… this could be why!

So now that you’ve heard some key benefits, next time you reach for that oh so tempting cup of coffee, or when you drive by Starbucks… keep this blog in mind!

With all of that being said, there are PLENTY of coffee alternatives that you can swap out coffee for! Shop coffee alternatives here!
